CurseForge vs WowUp
Choose CurseForge for its vendor app, or choose the WowUp edition that matches the CurseForge or Wago catalog you need.
Where they differ
CurseForge is the vendor app for the CurseForge catalog, including the Forever flavor and the "Belongs to…" warning when you pick the wrong one. WowUp is open source and offers separate CurseForge and Wago editions. A CurseForge-only addon belongs in the CurseForge edition; catalog access should be checked before diagnosing a failed search. It is not the same bug as "WowUp cannot find the game," which is a folder path.
Neither app saves your WTF settings. Back those up yourself. The Wago app is a third choice when the pack lives on wago.io. I am not scoring download speed. I do not have a measurement.

Questions
Is CurseForge safe?
The installer from curseforge.com is the vendor's app. I am not vouching for a repack that uses the same name.
