How to install WoW addons

Exit the game, put the addon in that client's Interface/AddOns folder, then enable it on the character screen.

Three ways in

A manager is fastest when the author publishes to a catalog. CurseForge knows Forever as a flavor. WowUp also reads Wago, Tukui and GitHub. Wago is the third app. Point the app at the flavor you play before you click install.

A manual zip is the right path when you do not want an app. The layout has to be AddOns/AddonName/AddonName.toc. One extra folder and the addon never appears. The manual page is only that layout.

GitHub is a fourth door, not a different rule. Download the release zip. The GitHub page explains how to inspect the archive layout.
