WoW Midnight and retail addons

Midnight did not ban addons. It restricted custom logic based on combat information. Frames, bars and nameplates remain presentation options.

Three layers

Midnight is the eleventh expansion, live on 2 Mar 2026, with a level cap of 90 and player housing. The live patch I am citing is 12.1.5. The PTR line in the TOC notes is 12.1.7. I print both and I do not pretend the PTR is what you log into today.

Blizzard's article describes the intended distinction. Presentation addons still restyle frames, nameplates and bars. Combat numbers are secret values an addon may show when the UI shows them and may not compute. Blizzard added boss warnings, a cooldown manager, a damage meter, combat audio alerts, and assisted highlight.

The addon list says which named projects still publish. The removed list is the stop-ship list. The policy page links the official policy article and distinguishes it from later project decisions.

Questions

Are addons banned?

The posts do not say that using an addon is a bannable act. They say combat calculation is no longer available to addons.
