WoW Midnight addon policy
Combat state is a secret value. Addons may display it when the interface does. They may not calculate with it.
What the official article says
The 23 October 2025 Blizzard article says addons should not automate combat decisions for the player. It preserves interface customization, including raid frames, nameplates, action bars, fonts and art. When the standard interface displays combat information, addons may generally present it differently; they may not use that information to drive custom decision logic. The article was written during development and describes its design direction, while each released addon documents its own current implementation.
I am not writing that players are banned for installing ElvUI or DBM. The linked article does not say that. "Banned addons" as a search phrase is answered here: the limit is the combat data, not a list of folder names.
The Hekili repository independently documents the consequence for that project: Retail development ended with the Midnight prepatch on 20 January 2026. That is an author decision linked to API restrictions. It does not create a publisher-wide blacklist of addon names, nor establish the status of every unrelated interface addon.
| Still described as possible | Closed to addon code |
|---|---|
| Restyle frames, bars, nameplates | Read secret combat state and compute a priority |
| Show a cooldown the UI already shows | Use secret combat information to make custom combat decisions |
Questions
Does this cover Classic and Forever?
No. Those clients have their own interface numbers. This page is retail Midnight.
